The Business

Hiro Japanese Restaurant is a premium dining experience in Kampala offering sushi, teppanyaki, private dining, and elevated hospitality. It launched in November 2024 with a clear vision - to bring authentic Japanese dining culture to Uganda's discerning restaurant-goers - but with zero existing digital presence and no audience to speak to.

The Challenge

Launching a premium Japanese restaurant in a market where Japanese dining culture was still developing was not just a marketing challenge - it was an education challenge. People needed to understand, desire, and talk about an experience they had limited reference for.

Hiro could not afford to simply announce itself and hope the market responded. It needed to be introduced, explained, and made desirable - all at once, from a standing start.

Our Approach

We did not start by posting. We started by building.

Before a single piece of content went live, we developed Hiro's full brand foundation: tone of voice, brand narrative, platform bios, and a psychological marketing framework built around what the Kampala premium dining audience actually responds to.

The content strategy was built around three objectives:

  • Educate - help people understand Japanese dining: the culture, the ceremony, the flavours, and why it is worth experiencing
  • Desire - create content so visually compelling and emotionally resonant that people felt they were missing something by not going
  • Talk - engineer shareable moments and viral content that made Hiro a conversation, not just a restaurant

Photography and videography were built around the full sensory experience - the theatre of teppanyaki, the precision of sushi, the calm of the dining room. We positioned Hiro as aspirational but approachable: a world-class experience that was also distinctly Kampala.

Akelis Media has played a key role in positioning Hiro Japanese Restaurant as one of the most sought-after dining experiences in Uganda. Their team has consistently delivered thoughtful strategy, high-quality content, and clear brand storytelling that truly reflects who we are. They didn't just manage our social media - they carried the brand with intention, kept it visible, and helped it grow steadily in a very competitive space.

What This Proves

People do not just buy food. They buy the experience they can already imagine themselves having.

The brands that win in hospitality are not the ones with the best product - they are the ones who make people feel something before they walk through the door. That feeling is built through strategy, not luck.

Don't just have an account. Make the world know it.
